Common Starling
Although not so common in recent years, with dramatic population declines and now a RSPB red list species.
The plumage of the starling is brightly coloured due to iridescence; this colour is derived from the structure of the feathers, not from any pigment.
Taken in the back garden.
I have noticed that compared with my 7D Mark II, there is less need for any image sharpening with the IDX and most times (as with this shot and the previous Greenfinch) the default is fine and feather detail looks very natural, in fact any increase can make the photo look over processed. Not sure how that works but presume it is something to do with pixel size (being larger with the IDX).
For best view hit 'L' for large on black.
