BNSF 2967 Greenland 14 Feb 11

On April 17th, 2020, with the arrival of the Pikes Peak Local back to its home in Denver, the PPL ceased to exist. The decades-long mainstay and railfan-favorite on the Joint Line, which ran south from Denver to Colorado Springs on Mondays and Thursdays and north to Denver on Tuesdays and Fridays and which was the only way to catch standard cab units running the line, would be replaced by a Local that now runs out of Pueblo to Colorado Springs. So, to honor the passing of the subdivision's namesake train, I will be uploading photos of the PPL that haven't previously been shared on Flickr:

Here, the PPL behind a pair of Cascade Green GP39s begins its journey once again in Greenland, CO after preceding traffic got signals at Spruce.

BNSF 2967 started life as LN 1103, a GP35, in Feb '64. At some point, after making its way as a Seaboard, CSXT, and BN unit, it was rebuilt and designated as a GP39V. Today, it's considered a GP39-3, and, while it still wears its green paint, it sports one of those mongoloid forehead brows on the cab today.

BNSF 2700 had a more stable life than its counterpart. It was built as BN 2700, a GP39-2, in Mar '81 and looks pretty much the same today, a middle finger to the constant march of time.
