BNSF 1659 USAFA 26 Dec 19
Here's a shot of my latest HO scale model*. Actually, no, this really is BNSF 1659 leading the Pikes Peak Local south through the Air Force Academy, CO at a location known as Stadium.
You can see on the west side of the tracks a couple of spur tracks passing by. I went and checked and the rails are stamped anywhere between 1926 through 1929 while the fishplates are marked 1924. Hard to believe those tracks have been there going on 100 years!
*I think the biggest giveaway this is not a HO model is the snow left behind in the shadow of whatever is covered in black on the pallet in the foreground there. I know scale modelers are detail freaks, but I'd be surprised if they got into shadow snow details! Or perhaps that is the latest trend waiting to launch?
