BNSF 1826 Palmer Lake 21 Nov 19

The flakes fly as BNSF 1826 leads the southbound Pikes Peak Local around the lake in Palmer Lake, CO.

Sometimes you're not expecting to be out railfanning, but when a heads up on a pair of SD40-2s comes across the railfan Group (thanks Wes and David!), one's plans can change. That was me on this day. I was just trying to beat the storm when the heads up went out. I was without my camera gear, but my iPhone filled in adequately.

The crane you see above the trailing unit's cab is there to place the main span of the pedestrian overpass the town of Palmer Lake is putting in over the tracks. While that will give new angles to shoot from (through chain link fencing), my concern is the town/railroads will install fencing along the tracks around the perimeter of the lake to prevent people from trespassing across the tracks. If that happens, the entire character of shooting in Palmer Lake could be changed...
