BNSF 1993 Palmer Lake 19 Feb 18

BNSF 1993 and BNSF 2700 lead the southbound Pikes Peak Local through the wintry scene in Palmer Lake, CO.

About the only thing that doesn't look like winter is the unfrozen waters of Palmer Lake itself! The hoar frost was left by the clouds which have retreated higher up the Rampart Range in the background there and have been replaced by some lightly falling snow. The one thing this photo doesn't capture (unless you count the ripple on the surface of the water) is the stiff breeze that was cutting through all layers of clothing and down to the bone. But when there's a SD40-2 up front, you stand outside in those conditions for as long as it takes!
