BNSF 1966 Palmer Lake 30 Dec 16

BNSF 1966 is underway again with the Pikes Peak Local as it works along the shores of Palmer Lake, CO.

This unit was built in 1972 as CS 911 and was rolled into Burlington Northern as BN 6359 (which you can see working its way through on the longhood). In the BNSF-era, it became BNSF 6393 and then eventually to its current road number.

One of the things I enjoy about this shot is the detailed items I didn't see when I was out actually taking the shot. The BN road number on the longhood is one of those things. The other is the blue on the longhood. I have no idea where that came from, but as far as I can tell looking at older photos of this unit, it's been there for at least 10 years. The other item is the yellow beacon on the cab which I believe were pretty much standard when these units were new.

Anyway, catching a Cascade Green SD40-2 on the eve eve of 2017 was a welcome sight!
