FXE 4065 Larkspur 11 Feb 15

Ferromex (FXE) 4065 leads a swiftly-moving southbound grain empty over the famous Santa Fe bridge on the south end of Larkspur, CO. Lots of railroads represented in this shot: Ferromex, BNSF, Santa Fe, and Burlington Northern.

This shot was taken less than 4 minutes after my previous photo on the north end of town, and if you're familiar with Larkspur and it's 25mph speed limit and stop sign in the center of town, you might be doing some mental math trying to figure out how I made it. Let me save you the trouble...I was in the MINI Cooper and the 25mph sign was viewed as a suggestions more than a set limit! Thank God the Douglas County Sheriff wasn't in town running radar, but I figured the risk of a ticket was worth it...how many times is a Ferromex ACe leading on the Joint Line?!

If you've followed my stream for any length of time, you know that I pride myself on photographic integrity, that my photos aren't manipulated in any way to remove wires or poles or distractions so as to keep the scene as it actually is. However, if I do end up removing something, I like to self-report and let you know, and this photo is one of those times. Fellow railfan (and the guy who gave us the heads up on this train) Wesley Greer was the victim in this case...along with his SUV. A little clone tool here, a little healing brush there and Wes and his car were erased from existence! Not the best job to be sure, but unless you're looking for it, you wouldn't even know. But now you do...so focus on the Ferromex unit and call it good!
