The Atrium of the Informatics Forum

The Informatics Forum, the first part of the Univerity's new Potter Row Development to be finished, is situated in Crichton Street on a corner of George Square.

A central feature of the architecture of the new Informatics Forum is the large tall Atrium, or entrance hall. This view looks down towards the floor of the south section of the Atrium from half way up the main staircase. The crowd of guests are focusing their attention on the podium in the north section of the Atrium, where the university Principal is introducing Alec Salmond, who is to perform the formal opening ceremony of the Forum.

The open architecture of the Atrium, overlooked by rooms, staircases, balconies, is intended to foster a sense of unity among the staff and students with a view to promoting co-operation and collaboration between the diverse disciplines which make up the School.

An exterior view of the building can be found here.
