Dead Mallee on top of ridge
I made a special trip up to see if the Mallee at the top of the first ridge above Balcanoona to see if a number of dead looking Eucalyptus gillii (Curly Mallee) had sprouted after the rain. Unfortunately they had not. The years of constant drought have taken their toll. Further down the hill a number of trees had sprouted which was good to see. The Curly Mallee trees are very important particularly to birds and insects including native bees.
