Panorama of the Durance Valley from the Mont d'Or in Manosque
The river Durance is a major river in South-eastern France that runs from the south-western alps to join the Rhone, 323km later, at Avignon. The last snows of winter can still be seen in the distant mountains.
The Mont d'Or is a hill to the north east of Manosque that once had a fortified tower, built in 1207 by Guillaume IV de Forcalquier, at the summit. All that remains of the Tour du Mont d'Or now is one complete wall and one partial wall.
