Wheatley's Railway

Railway bridge that carried the former Newton Stewart to Whithorn Railway between Newton Stewart and Causeway End station .The line to Wigtown opened in 1875 and to Garlieston and Whithorn in 1877. For the first ten years it was run under private contract by Thomas Wheatley who came from the North British Railway. Following his untimley death in 1883 the remaing three years transfer of managment passed to his son WT Wheatley.The line then became part of the Portpatrick & Wigtownshire Joint Railway until the grouping in 1923. Motive power being provided by the GS&W and Caledonian Railway.
