Autumn in Tumwater Canyon

Just outside of Leavenworth, Washington, lies the narrow Tumwater Canyon. The canyon channels the Wenatchee River through the steep slopes of the Cascade Mountains along embankments littered with glowing maples.

The Leavenworth area is one of the few places in Western Washington that reminds me of the dazzling autumns of the northeast US where I grew up, but in typical Washington fashion, it has its own flavor. The Wenatchee River rages through these narrow passes -- especially after heavy rains the past few weeks -- and the jagged boulders and conifers outnumbering the maples remind you that you're among the young and raw mountains of the Evergreen State.

This is a revisit of an image I posted yesterday, with better depth of field through focus stacking techniques. I'm not 100% satisfied with it, as there are some editing artifacts in places I would not have anticipated while shooting, but overall I think it's the stronger version of the image.
