Flaring in another active region Sept. 8, 2011

A cropped frame showing the active region in better detail, including active flaring (the bright white areas around the sunspots). The sunspot cores are perhaps twice as large as Earth.

This h-alpha image was captured on Sept. 8th, 2011 during a period of intense radio (M-class) flares from several active regions. The 90mm double-stacked Coronado etalon was tuned to show flare detail, so "surface" detail is somewhat muted compared to the framestack from capture 0007.

This frame is a stack made from about 490 frames from video segment 0005, using 14 alignment points set manually in Registax.
