Solar Observing, 2nd afternoon, ESP 2003
This was the scene on the observing field in the afternoons. Even in October the temperatures were well into the 90s, F, by midafternoon. Given the angle of the scope, this was likely taken around 4 p.m.
That's me in my SPF50 shirt and hat, on my "custom" observer's chair, with the Celestron 6" achromat on CI-700 mount.
Given the open space in the field, this would have been the second day of the event (Thursday). The field was filled by Friday afternoon (we were elbow-to-elbow and there was very little turf not covered by plastic tarps).
The solar filter is a 4" Baader white-light filter over an aperture stop-down mask (114mm).
