3rd Quarter Moon comparison: Webcam vs. DSLR
A comparison of a 640x480 webcam (Philips ToUCam Pro 840K) with a 6-megapixel DSLR (Pentax istDS) for lunar imaging, taken at very nearly the same phase and lighting. The image on the left is a mosaic of more than 24 images, each of which was a stack of several hundred webcam images. The image on the right is a stack of 4 virtually identical single frames from the DSLR, stacked to remove noise. While at first glance the DSLR image appears superior, if you download this image and double or triple it in size you'll see the image on the left is sharper.
MOUSEOVER: The area to compare if you download the Original size, load it into an image editor or viewer, and double or triple it in size.
