flare-1-color
Small solar flares (called "Ellerman bombs") from Sunspot 923 on 2006 November 8, photographed from the campus of The University of Texas at Dallas. This flare was first spotted by Dr. Charles Shields, who somehow picked it out of a live AVI from a Calcium K-line solar telescope hooked to a computer monitor, outdoors in broad daylight. That's quite a feat! It was also his very first "live" view of the Sun through a telescope.
3RF's Coronado SM70 Ca-K scope was fitted with a 2.5X Televue Powermate and a MaxPower 2X nosepiece barlow; 2,000mm EFL.
