Chillon-catacombs
Allegedly used as both a dungeon and a powder magazine, the catacombs beneath Chateau Chillon use vaulted arches to support the tremendous weight of the center portions of the castle above. An inscription by a prisoner on one of the walls is dated in the 1700s. Apparently various outspoken dissidents of the period of Swiss federation were jailed here for many years.
