Saturn-returns-2006
Saturn has returned from its annual trip around the Sun (due to Earth's motion around the Sun) and the ring tilt is significantly less than before (see comparison photos in this same album). This photo is the best 900 frames of 2,700 culled from 18 AVI files made with a Philips SPC900NC (ToUCam III) webcam, using a 4X Powermate. Effective focal length is 4,800 mm. The photos were made over a period of about 2 hours. Most of the best frames came from the very last AVI, which was made just prior to sunrise and well into astronomical twilight ... the sky had turned a light blue and I could not see Saturn (VM +0.5) naked-eye while the AVI was being captured. Sirius (VM -1.4, or about 6 times as bright as Saturn) was the only "star" I could see in the sky at the time. EDIT: Thanks for the comments!
This is my eighth photo to reach 900 views (Aug. 30, 2007), thanks! Of these eight, four are of Saturn ... which goes to show how popular this beautiful planet really is ...
