We live at the nexus of Tokyo, Yokohama and Kawasaki -- the three largest cities in the Kanto area, and the largest metropolitan area in the world. That means things are pretty dynamic around here. When a shop goes out of business, you generally see another one open in its place within weeks.

Evidently, the same thing seems to apply to signage. I spent an hour walking between my house and Tama Plaza, and I could only find two "ghost ads." One was a sign on a power pole that I photographed in 2014, advertising a long departed liquor store. I feared I might have to repeat myself, but I finally found this ancient bus bench ad for a custom toupee maker. That's it! The only two old signs I found during my hour-long walk.

I could probably find more if I got out into the countryside, but COVID has kept me to my little neighborhood world for a year and a half now, so the countryside will have to wait.
