Martin pêcheur d'Europe ( Alcedo atthis - Common kingfisher )

Insociable et farouche, le Martin-pêcheur consacre une grande partie de ses journées à la surveillance du territoire. On l'observe le plus souvent passant en trombe, d'un vol direct comme une flèche scintillante, au-dessus de l'eau, s'arrêtant souvent sur des perchoirs favoris pour visiter ses lieux de pêche. Immobile sur son perchoir, il scrute la surface du plan d'eau en attendant patiemment qu'une proie se présente favorablement.

Unsociable and fierce, the Kingfisher devotes a large part of his days to monitoring the territory. It is most often observed whirling around, with a direct flight like a scintillating arrow, above the water, often stopping on favorite perches to visit its fishing grounds. Motionless on its perch, it scans the surface of the body of water patiently waiting for prey to present itself favorably.
