The Dick and Nancy Eales Preserve at Moosic Mountain is seen in Lackawanna County, Pa., on Aug. 28, 2019. Once planned for partial commercial development, the 2,200-acre preserve was purchased by the Nature Conservancy in 2001. It features rare heath barrens marked by stunted pine and oak trees and low-lying shrubs such as huckleberry and blueberry.
