Picture Lake

This is beautiful Picture Lake and Mt. Shucksan, one of Washington's classic postcard shots. I get the impression that this place suffers "Trillium Lake syndrome"; in other words, it is photographed to death. Doesn't matter to me. I had never been here before and was delighted to have a chance to come here for sunset.

Greg and I spent a happy half-hour here taking pictures as the sun went down behind us. Besides the mosquitoes, we had the place to ourselves. I was surprised there were no other photographers here, since this is literally right next to the road. But then, it is QUITE a long drive to get out here. I definitely saw evidence of past photographers, though. Even though the views from the path and viewing platforms are more than adequate, I guess past photographers have deemed it necessary to trample the vegetation to get the "perfect comp" here. There were lots of signs forbidding this, but you know it happens anyway.

I thought I would share a vertical shot from here, since most of the shots you see at Picture Lake are horizontal. I wish the lake had calmed earlier before the shadows started creeping up the base of the mountain, but I worked with what I had.

Incidentally, we could not have gone much further up the road here if we had wanted to. The road to Artist's Point was still being plowed. Yes, it was still buried under snow in late July. What an odd odd year.
