Red Cherry Tree
Stranger 10/100
I met Syahidah (from Singapore) while geisha spotting in Gion, Kyoto. It turned out that we had a lot in common - we were both travelling solo, we'd both visited the Ghibli museum in Tokyo, the 100 yen shop in Harajuku, Miajjima and now Kyoto (travelling distance of over 1250klm). We both also love Cambodia, shrimp burgers and macha flavoured desserts.
We became instant friends and made a spontaneous trip to Osaka on the shinkensan. The next afternoon we had planned to meet with a geisha expert who turned out to be a no show. It didn't matter though because we still had a great time racing around Gion spotting geisha, running (while laughing uncontrollably) through a department store trying to find the international ATM moments before it closed and then later rushing to the station so I could catch my bullet train to Tokyo. It turned out that I caught the wrong one but that's another story :)
This picture is #10 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at the 100 Strangers Flickr Group page
