Searching for the spirit of St Sergius and St Bacchus
"Inseparable in life, faith and even in death, Sergius and Bacchus were Christians, soldiers and possibly even gay lovers in the 3rd century."
They were from what is now Syria and it is in Syria that there presence is most keenly felt, with the Monastery of St Sergius and St Bacchus in Ma'aloula and the scene of St Sergius' martyrdom in Resafe. This is a series of photos looking at the spirit of the two saints in visible displays of man-to-man bonding and friendship still to be found in modern day Syria.
