A close look at a shedding chameleon

I was fortunate to get real close (for the first time) to a shedding chameleon during a visit to the Kula Botanical Garden in Maui (Hawaii). I later learned that a growing chameleon will shed on a regular basis. Some adolescents will shed as frequently as every two or three weeks, with the rate generally slowing as adulthood is reached. At full maturity, a chameleon may shed once a month or less. Studies also show that light, temperature and mood cause chameleons to change color.
