Why There and How?

There is a logic and simple explanation, like there is for almost everything. Unfortunately I don't know it. Probably it was to avoid marketing letters and stubborn religious fans. Not a good place to play football for sure.

There were more monasteries, but WWII destroyed them since some guys tought it was a great idea to hide there.

So, how to get there: you climb a train and get stuck in Larissa, just to be told that the ticket clearly says that you need to change trains, then wait for 6 hours to get another train. Get a little bus to bring you to the last monastery and go down from there, do it fast, there is only one bus in the morning and one at midday, so if you get lost and suppose that the bus is supposed to pass where you are since it looks obvious in the map, then you will have to call for a cab, or share it with a chinesse couple. Not hard if you are fluent in greek.
