Unmasking a Killer #01
Docked along the river in Old Sacramento, the beautiful riverboat hotel served as event host.
On Wednesday, April 4, 2018, the Center for Sacramento History in partnership with CNN sister network HLN, presented a screening and panel discussion on the network's documentary series Unmasking A Killer - the Hunt for the Golden State Killer at the Delta King Theatre. HLN's five-part docuseries Unmasking A Killer takes an in-depth look at one of America’s most prolific uncaught serial murderers who began his crimes in Sacramento County. Known first as the East Area Rapist, then the Original Night Stalker, and now the Golden State Killer, he’s responsible for a staggering 51 attacks and 12 murders in California…that we know of. For forty years investigators have been on the manhunt for this sadistic criminal and recent evidence suggests he may still be alive. With the FBI in Sacramento offering a $50,000 reward, the investigation is hotter than ever.
The Golden State Killer began his home-invasion assaults in eastern Sacramento County in 1976 and terrorized the region for three years before moving to the East Bay and ultimately Southern California. In an effort to raise awareness of the Golden State Killer case and ultimately bring the offender to justice, the event included panelists Carol Daly, a retired Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detective; Paul Holes, a retired Contra Costa County DA investigator; Linda, a Golden State Killer survivor; and Paige Kneeland, Sacramento County Sheriff's Department, who is currently working on the case.
The film’s trailer can be viewed here. The screening was shown to sold-out audience in the 122-seat theater.
