Old Tonopah Cemetery

This dusty old cemetery contains the remains of Western Nevada's miners, laborers, spouses and children. It might have been lost to time and paved over had a local man not taken interest and worked to map out the burial sites with dowsing rods. Later, ground penetrating radar was brought in for precise locations.

New simple monuments were placed, often with some biographical information added on stamped tin plates. Taken together they paint a picture of just how difficult, dangerous, and unforgiving life in this arid mining hub was.

Side note - this cemetery shares a parking lot with the infamous Clown Motel.
