"Larus Argentatus"
Prawle Point South Hams Coast Devon.
"Ramblings"
Herring Gulls often referred to as the "Marmite" of seabirds in the UK.
Calling the Herring Gull a Seagull may raise a few eyebrows amongst your well-seasoned bird watchers.
One of my regular go to spots along the Devon coast for a days nature watch is the East Prawl area.
At island rock your find a very lively especially around spring, small colony of Herring Gulls plus a few greater and lessor Black Backed Gulls while not forgetting regular visits from small numbers of Cormorants and Shags etc.
Never a dull moment watching the Herring Gulls roosting, mating, nesting, squabbling etc plus their very acrobatic take off and landings.
Not once have the gulls remotely taken an interest in my healthy lunch and that often includes Cornish or Devon pasties, pork and pickle pies or sausage rolls.
