perched on the side of a shrub

I don't know why this streak-eared bulbul (pycnonotus conradi) chose to perch on the side of this shrub - but it returned to this position several times. Perhaps the bird was searching for insects. Photographed near Ao Nang, Krabi Province, Thailand.
