searching for prey

A southern pale chanting goshawk (melierax canorus) using a lofty perch to scan its surroundings for prey. It has a huge choice given a diet of other birds (up to the size of guineafowl), small mammals, reptiles, frogs, insects and carrion. I photographed this one in typical scrubby habitat in The Kalahari, in Botswana. More at "Colin Pacitti Wildlife Photography & Fishing Travels" - www.colin-pacitti.com.
