European Peacock (Peacock Butterfly)
Mom's Butterfly Garden
The European Peacock (Aglais io), more commonly known simply as the Peacock butterfly, is a colorful butterfly, found in Europe and temperate Asia as far east as Japan.
It can be found in woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, and gardens, and from lowlands up to 2,500 m (8,200 ft) elevation. It is a relatively common butterfly seen in many European parks and gardens.
In Austria every time we saw a butterfly we got all excited.
I am not sure why really. I don't go goo-goo ga-ga over butterflies here, although they greet me daily. Anyhow, I guess my Mom got a bit fed up with our (or my) oohh's and aahh's and mentioned she has a butterfly "bush" where they all hang out. So one morning, after chasing the little birds around, I though I'll check it out.
Sure enough, there they were. All over the "bush" and flowers. But find one that would pose long enough to get a half decent shot. I spent a good hour there chasing them around.
Oh yeah, that was another reason why on that one sunny morning we didn't really go anywhere until in the afternoon and by then it wasn't so sunny anymore.
