Toy store fun: "Überstix Scavenger" building toy
The picture is a bit blurry for this to come across, but the idea with this Überstix Scavenger set is that -- as far as i can tell -- you just get these clippy beam things, and are supposed to integrate them with other building toys (Lego, Erector set, K'Nex, etc) as well as incorporate other household objects into what you build.
So, for example, here we see a sailboat where the "hull" is made out of a plastic drink bottle, the "pontoons" are disposable drink cups, the "sail" appears to be cut out of a trash bag, and the "rigging" is made from a chain of paper clips. The Überstix provide the frame that holds these things together.
I can't decide if this is brilliant or insane, but good for them for getting it on the shelf at Toys R Us.
