Der barocke Prunksaal der Österreichischen Nationalbibliothek zählt zu den schönsten Bibliothekssälen der Welt.
Der Prunksaal war das erste Gebäude, das eigens für die Hofbibliothek gebaut wurde, vorher wurden die Bücher im Minoritenkloster gelagert. Der Bau wurde 1723 von Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach begonnen und nach dessen Tod von seinem Sohn Joseph Emanuel 1726 fertiggestellt. Die Deckenfresken des Prunksaals stammen vom Hofmaler Daniel Gran, der daran von 1726 bis 1730 arbeitete. Links unten im Bild eine Marmorstatue Kaiser Karls VI., die dem kaiserlichen Hofbildhauer Antonio Corradini (1668 – 1752) zugeschrieben wird.
The State Hall of the Austrian National Library is one of the most beautiful library halls in the world. It is the biggest Baroque library in Europe. Construction was begun 1723 by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach and finished by his son, Joseph Emanuel in 1726. The ceiling paintings in the State Hall were created by Court artist Daniel Gran, who worked on them from 1726 to 1730. The marble statue (bottom left) represents Emperor Charles VI and dates back to 1735 and was allegedly crafted by Imperial Court sculptor Antonio Corradini (1668–1752).
