Elliot and Wyatt O'Brien read Proclamation of Moving Planet Seattle

WHEREAS All citizens of Seattle are committed to the calling and responsibility to care for the land and water and air and creatures; and,

 

WHEREAS Seattle citizens represent a broad spectrum of faith and beliefs, most of which include care for all others and care for the planet; and,

 

WHEREAS Seattle citizens are deeply connected to many other citizens all over the world through friendship, love, and family bonds, many of whom may be already suffering climate-related environmental catastrophes; and,

 

WHEREAS Seattle citizens have a great accumulation of knowledge and innovative technological know-how to make change for the better; and,

 

WHEREAS Our well-educated public understands the necessity to keep our atmospheric carbon dioxide below 350 parts per million in order to have a planet similar to the one on which civilization developed and to which life on earth is adapted; and,

 

WHEREAS Seattle City policies, initiatives, laws, and programs have been put forward to lower the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere such as Walk-Bike-Ride, Zero Waste, Urban Agriculture, Carbon Neutral, Community Powerworks and so many more laudable programs; and,

 

WHEREAS Seattle City government strongly supports and is supported by non- governmental organizations that take climate action; and,

 

NOW THEREFORE, The Mayor and City Council of the City of Seattle proclaim:

 

September 24, 2011 as a day for Moving Planet Seattle: a day to move beyond fossil fuels, beyond oil, beyond coal, as our city prepares the way for a peaceful Transition to an abundant and positive future beyond fossil fuels for all plants, all creatures, and all future generations.
