ParenTeen Tips for Family Holidays

Photage 130: Holiday gatherings are cool. They can also mean more cooking, more cleaning, more family obligations, and might even trigger old family conflicts. Here are four tips to support you through this Thanksgiving holiday:

1. Plan, plan, plan

Different family members tend to have different ideas about how holidays are going to play out. Talk to each other about what you want and need out of the holiday.

2. Consider your options

Tradition tends to rule holiday family gatherings. Tradition is good and at the same time it's okay to switch things up for the better. Consider your options and choose the one that fits best for you and your family.

3. Reward yourself

Holidays can take a lot of time, energy, money, and planning. Be sure to plan and schedule a reward for yourself after all is said and done. This helps to make the holiday not only about family, but also about nurturing you.

4. Have fun!

Yes, there is work to be done in holiday gatherings. But, ultimately it is about connecting. So be sure to enjoy yourself along the way!
