Lizard Professor
First band promo in a while (but let's just say there are a few more, and much larger, shoots lined up in the coming weeks :)). This was for a good friend of mine's band, they have been writing for close to the past year, and while song numbers are low, the technicality is nothing short of amazing; wonderful, long, flowing songs. However, that is all beyond the point.
So, here's how the shoot, and it's location, came about...
I was walking to class and noticed that almost all of Caruth Hall, except for one corner piece had been torn down, and the remaining piece had this abstract beauty, twisted rebar, crumbling brick and concrete, chaos stemming from a once singular creation, and thought that his would make the best possible setting for a promo shoot. I threw the idea around to a few friends, and Lizard Professor were the first ones to be up for it. They got there around 10, and we shot for about an hour, doing some standard stuff, and then slightly more goofy stuff (like this photo). We definitely got a plethora of looks, not only from students but also the police, as we were set up directly across from Patterson Hall, the home of SMU's police department. All in all, the shoot went pretty well, lighting worked as it was designed to, except for the kicker, but I think, at least for this shot, it works better without any sort of rim light.
Strobist Info:
Canon 430EX through 45" umbrella camera left as key, gelled with a full CTO.
VIvitar 285HV bare firing at the building, gelled to match flourescents.
All lights triggered with Cactus V2S.
