Bulova Accutron Marketing #2

"an ingenious electronic brain", no less.

The Bulova Accutron is regulated by a tiny tuning fork excited by two electromagnets that are driven by a _very_ small (for the time) 1 transistor oscillator. The oscillations of the tuning fork are geared down to drive the hands, hence the fact they sweep rather than tick. If you sit the thing on a set of drawers by your bed you can hear it sing all night long.

The Accutron movement was used to regulate time in the cockpit instruments of Apollo 11. And was also used to regulate time in a data transmitter left on the moon in the Sea of Tranquillity.
