King Gormr made this monument in memory of Thyrvé, his wife, Denmark's salvation

Jelling, in Denmark, hosts a World Heritage site, the Jelling runestones from the 10th century. The one depicted here (seen through the door of a church) was laid by King Gorm the Old. The inscription reads King Gormr made this monument in memory of Thyrvé, his wife, Denmark's salvation. Behind, one of the two adjoining funeral mounds (Daniela on top).

The other runestone, not depicted here, was laid by Harald Bluetooth, Gorm's son. It reads King Haraldr ordered this monument made in memory of Gormr, his father, and in memory of Thyrvé, his mother; that Haraldr who won for himself all of Denmark and Norway and made the Danes Christian. It is considered Denmark's birth and baptism certificate.
