Huay Xai (north Thai/Laos border) bus station schedule March 14, 2010. If you encounter pushy touts at the river crossing pressuring folks to pay for their overpriced bus tickets - ignore them and just get to the station, pay the local price there and grab a seat.
Check out the 7:30am bus to Jinghong (Xieng Houang). They said it would take 10 hours. Sok dee!
