Alaskan Coastal Brown Bear

I took a day trip to Katmai National Park and Preserve with Sasquatch Alaska Adventure Company based out of Homer for bear viewing and it was an incredible experience! There are no roads to Katmai National Park and it's accessible only by a seaplane or boat. The park occupies 4 million acres on the Alaskan Peninsula and has the worlds largest population of brown bears. The tour flies into the middle of the biggest concentration of these bear and it's a guarantee to see them. In addition to the bear the park has nearly 500 miles of rugged coastline, and 15 active volcanoes. On the flight over we had fantastic views of some of these volcanoes and many beautiful glaciers. The views and the photos I took from the flight alone were worth it. Seeing the bear in their natural habitat with knowledgeable guides and observing as they played together in a stream and fed on spawning salmon was an indescribable experience. There was a group of 5 to 6 bear that day and sometimes they came as close as just feet away. Even though there were no barriers, no one in our group ever felt threatened. The bear were much more interested in fishing than the people! :-)

As always, thanks for your visits and comments and wishing everyone a great weekend!
