canberra house
Hotel Canberra, Commonwealth Avenue, Yarralumla, ACT
Now the Hyatt Hotel. Designed in 1926 by John Smith Murdoch with additions by Daryl Jackson in 1987.
The pavilion style planning and ideas of the Prairie School of architecture probably influenced by Walter Burley Griffin, whom Murdoch met on a trip to the US in 1912. The star-shaped plan of the pavilions radiates out from a central hub.
From a foldout postcard, c1965.
