The Pentax ME had already been billed as "the easiest" of all the company's SLRs. But evidently its marketers felt a need for something even cheaper and less intimidating, which became the Pentax MV.
Let's be honest that this autoexposure-only model was distinctly crippled, as the copy obliquely acknowledges. Pentax would update the ME into the ME Super as the model for those who wanted to take over manual exposure from time to time.
It's a curious marketing question of how many buyers actually wanted (or knew what to do with) interchangeable lenses on a body that was otherwise a point & shoot.
