So I lit the candle with the idea of achieving melted wax, so I could photograph that. Best laid plans!
The little table I had set it onto, accidentally got knocked and the candle fell over. I rushed to set it upright and then noticed that a section of the side of the candle was melting too. The effect was so interesting that I left it where it was and started clicking.
