Syd Barrett was a founding member of Pink Floyd and the main man until 1968. He was a Cambridge lad. As were fellow Pink Floyd members David Gilmour and Roger Waters. Syd's impact on the band was massive. And that was even when he left due to mental illness. Many Pink Floyd tracks have references to Syd, including this well known track in Dark Side of the Moon (1973).
