Eastern Great Egret, Ash Island, 12.1.09
Here are two plain simple shots of Eastern Great Egrets taken down at Ash Island.
After spending three nights up on the NE coast of NSW, we made our way South to the Newcastle area (just north of Sydney), where we camped at Myall Lakes NP overnight.
On our way back to Canberra, we stopped in at Newcastle, visiting Ash Island (part of Kooragang Island) in the morning, and following it up with a visit to Stockton Sandspit later on (which proved fruitless as a massive king tide got rid of all the waders).
Ash Island was good though, and here we found lots of Egrets, White-fronted Chats, European Golfinchesm various ducks, Fairy Martins etc. nearly every year there are meant to be 2-5 Yellow Wagtails (a regular vagrant or rare migrant), but we were a little early in the season for them.
I just had to stop for this magnificent egret posing beautifully for me. I have posted a shot with the reflection next door. Which do you prefer?
