Border Crossing

The Union Bridge links Scotland with England above the River Tweed.

When the bridge was built in 1820 it was the longest iron suspension bridge in the world.

The bridge's designer Captain Samuel Brown developed a revolutionary technique to suspend the decking using iron bars instead of cables.

It is also known as the Chain Bridge. It is around three or four miles upstream from Berwick-Upon-Tweed.

The photo is taken from the Scottish side, at the far end is Northumberland, England.
