Cyclic Existence
I spent New Year's Day 2023 hiking at Red Top Mountain State Park in Georgia. It had been a rather intense year, and I needed to get moving and be out in nature to reflect. As I was winding through trails I came across this fallen tree. I have seen dozens, maybe hundreds, like it on my adventures, but I stopped to really take it in that day. The dried leaves and the fallen limbs were all lifeless as they lay on the forest floor. Yet, from the fallen tree life has sprung forth. Covered in life, in fact, almost every inch. The only green I could see was on this seemingly dead tree. I contemplated the cyclic existence of all things. How all things come in and out of existence and appear in different and unique forms. This tree is now a garden for fungus, next it will be soil and then part of another tree or a flower, then get eaten by an animal, and on and on and on. All of that was right in front of me, so I captured it so I would not forget.
