St. Mary's Monochrome

St. Mary's Lighthouse, near to Whitley Bay on the North East coast.

In this shot you see the causeway which is used to access St. Mary's Island during low tide. The lighthouse ceased operating in 1984 but is now open to the general public. The views from the top of the tower are supposed to be fantastic, this is on my list of things to do.

Access to the Island is restricted due to the tide as the causeway is covered by the sea for around four hours at each high tide. I found this chart on a local website which may be quite handy if you are planning a visit. A notice is posted beside the causeway which gives more exact times of when the causeway will be covered.

I am quite pleased with how this has turned out. Was watching these two people edging closer and closer to the crashing waves. Thought they added a bit of interest to the composition. This is 3 RAW files, +2 0 -2, tonemapped then converted to monochrome in Photoshop, where I used a custom filter to darken the sky. Not much else done apart from a boost in contrast and a levels adjustment.
