Starrs on Mercer

in Dripping Springs

Happy Bench Monday!!

HBM!!

Built in 1941, the building already comes with plenty of charm and character.

“It was originally a drug store and housed a soda fountain. Over the years, it has housed many businesses, including a general store, sewing shop and most recently, Bassett machine shop. The building is owned by Joy Purcell, a long time resident of Dripping Springs,” Oehler explained.

Since the building is in a historical district, Oehler and her sister have been working with city officials to preserve the building’s history.

“This 2000 square foot building, which is located in the Mercer Street Historical District, is undergoing a major renovation. The building has never had HVAC so that is being installed. All new electrical is being down due to the old outdated wiring. In addition, we are replacing doors, painting, updating bathroom, landscaping and much more. We are working with the Dripping Springs Historical Preservation Commission to keep the structure of the building as original as possible.
